culture blog project

I like this project, i thought it was interesting to see what other people in the world thought of some of the big issues here, and what its like for them.  I think its definately the easiest project i have ever had to do.  It was cool reading other peoples blogs from other countries and seeing how different and alike we are.

My country's diversity

The U.S has an extremely diverse population, with  people who live here who come from every single country in the world.  There is now a larger total population of minorities than the white majority, with thousands of new people arriving on our boarders every year.  At my school alone I have friends of many ethnicities, for example Indian, Chinese, Russian, Jewish, Spanish and Ethiopian just to name a few.  Our country is usually very excepting of cultural and ethnic diversity, with very little racism still existing in the US.

My favorite place

My favorite place in America is probably Hawaii.  Ive always loved going to the beach, and Hawaii has some of the most beautiful beaches and best weather I have ever seen.  It is a great place for me to just go and relax.  The rainforests are also a very cool part of Hawaii, with diverse vegetation and wildlife, and many beautiful sights to see.  The people are very nice and welcoming, and I definately look forward to my next trip there.

terrorism

On September 11th, 2001, terrorists crashed two planes into the World Trade Center in New York, a plane into the pentagon, and attempted to crash a plane into the white house.  Thousands where killed, and we are still rebuilding after the damage.  It was discovered that the terrorists where radical Arab muslims that belonged to a group called Al Queada, based in Saudi Arabia.  They where driven to attack the U.S by a hatred of the West and non-muslims.  The U.S government launched a "War against terror" to root out and stop the people that had attacked our country.  Even today that war still continues, with fighting in Afganistan and the continiung search for Osama Bin Laden, the financial leader of Al Quaedea.

My School

I go to Anderson High School in Austin Texas.  It is a large school, or at least to me it is, since at my last school i had only 40 kids in my grade.  Ive only been going there for about 6 weeks now, but i already really like it.  The teachers are mostly cool, and alot of my friends from my old school go to anderson too.  There are alot of clubs and athletic groups,  I personally do football.  Its really cool, and ive had a lot of fun playing for Anderson.

Immigrants

In America, and especially in Texas, we have a lot of illegal immigrants.  Most of the immigrants in Texas come from Mexico, and have came across the border illegally to live in America.  They do this because America is a much better place to live, even as a poor person, than Mexico.  Mexico is a very poor and dangerous place.  I personally have no problem with these immigrants.  They do jobs many Americans dont want to do for little money, and are happy for it.  They are some of the hardest working and productive people in our country, and are just as American as all of us.

Summer

Over the summer i did alot of cool stuff.  A week after i got out I went on a two week trip to Greece.  The trip was created by my school, and alot of people from my grade where there.  We saw a ton of old ruins, like the parthenon, the temples of Minoa, and Knossos.  We also went to some amazing beaches in Create for the later half of the trip.  Me and my friends went biking around the streets of Athens, swam in the Medditaranian, and nearly got in a fight with a bunch of local kids, so all in all it was a pretty awesome trip.  About a month after visiting Greece I went up to Arkansas to visit my mother's side of the family.  It is a tradition in my family to meet at my gramparents house in Harrison Arkansas every summer.  I had alot of fun seeing my family and just hanging out.  For the rest of the summer i basically just ate, slept, hung out with my friends, and played Halo.

Hey my names Brent Michel, i was born in Dallas texas, then moved to boston when i was a year old, and then to austin, and then to north carolina, and then i moved back to austin 7 years ago, where ive lived ever since.  Ive got a little brother whos in 6th grade.  In my free time I usually hang out with friends, play xbox, get on myspace/facebook ( mostly facebook) and practice guitar, which ive been playing for 2 years.  I just started highschool, and it has been a big change, since i used to go to a school of 120 people, in a building that was a little bigger than my house.  At school I do football.
